Funding for websites and digitalisation by federal state

Draft. This page has not been editorially reviewed yet. The legal review is still pending.

You want to use funding for your new website or a digitalisation project? Here you will find the federal and state programmes, which we last checked on the official websites on 14 October 2026. Each card shows who can apply, what is funded, the funding rate, the minimum costs, the deadline and the status. “Open” means: according to the official website, applications are possible. “Exhausted” means: the budget has been used up. “Ended” means: the programme is no longer running. Funding changes often, sometimes within a few weeks when a budget runs out. So check the linked source before every order. One condition applies to almost every programme: you must submit the application before you order or start the project. Costs incurred before that are usually not recognised. Also watch out for exclusions: several programmes only fund a website as part of a larger digitalisation project or exclude websites and online marketing altogether. This page is not a substitute for advice from the funding body.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to apply for funding before I order the website?

In most of the programmes we checked, yes. At the Wirtschaftsagentur Wien (Vienna Business Agency), only projects carried out after submission are funded; with the SFG’s Lebens!Nah, only costs after the application is received count; with the Land Tirol (State of Tyrol), the application must be submitted before the funding period. In Upper Austria (DIGITAL.PLUS 26), costs may date back no more than 10 weeks before the application. So only order once the application has been submitted.

Is KMU.DIGITAL still available in 2026?

According to kmudigital.at, the KMU.DIGITAL 4.0 budget is fully used up. Applications for the consulting and implementation grants are currently not possible. In earlier phases, implementation came with a 30 per cent grant of up to €6,000 for projects of €2,000 to €30,000 excl. VAT, after a mandatory consultation. Mere content or design updates to a website were excluded.

Is a new website funded everywhere?

No. The Wirtschaftsagentur Wien excludes website creation and web shops as a stand-alone measure. DIGITAL.PLUS 26 in Upper Austria excludes websites, design, SEO and online marketing. In Styria, by contrast, the SFG’s Lebens!Nah and the funding of the Landesinnung (state guild) for foot care, cosmetics and massage expressly name the first creation or substantial adaptation of a website as eligible.

Are monthly costs such as a website subscription eligible?

Usually only to a limited extent. Many programmes exclude ongoing operating costs. DIGITAL.PLUS 26 recognises licences and online services for up to 12 months, but excludes ongoing support costs without a project character. With KMU.DIGITAL, cloud licences were only eligible within the project period. Ask the funding body before you count on a subscription being covered.

How up to date is the information on this page?

Each programme shows the date it was last checked on the official website. Budgets can be used up at any time, and deadlines get moved. Only the guideline and the information from the funding body are binding. Before you apply, open the linked source and read the current guideline.
