Websites for foot care practitioners: what they need, what they cost

Draft. This page has not been editorially reviewed yet.

You run a foot care studio in Styria or make home visits. Many of your customers are older; some come on their GP's recommendation, others search on their mobile for “foot care near me”. On your website they want to see quickly what a treatment costs, how to get to you and when you have time. The most common mistake: the site is hard to read. Small, pale text, a price list as a scanned PDF and a phone number that can't be tapped. On top of that, you can't answer the phone during treatments, and there's no other way to request an appointment. Under the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act), Fußpflege (foot care) is a regulated trade. That's why your professional title, Landesinnung (regional guild), a reference to the Gewerbeordnung and your trade authority belong in the Impressum (legal notice). Here you'll find which pages you need and which obligations apply.

Mandatory information for foot care practitioners

„Fußpflege – § 94 Z 23 GewO 1994“ is a regulated trade (reglementiertes Gewerbe). Responsible body at the Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Commerce): Landesinnung der Fußpfleger, Kosmetiker und Masseure der WKO Steiermark (division Gewerbe und Handwerk). On top of the general imprint (Impressum) details, your website needs:

  • Chamber membership: member of the Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark (Styrian Chamber of Commerce), Landesinnung (regional guild) der Fußpfleger, Kosmetiker und Masseure
  • Professional title: Fußpfleger or Fußpflegerin (foot care practitioner), awarded in Austria
  • Reference to professional regulations: Gewerbeordnung 1994 (GewO, Trade Regulation Act), available at www.ris.bka.gv.at
  • Supervisory authority: the locally responsible trade authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat)
  • Optional: state your qualifying exam
  • The same information, complete, on Facebook, Instagram and other profiles too

What else belongs in the imprint depends on your legal form: Impressum (legal notice) for sole traders (EPU) and e.U., Impressum (legal notice) on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and co., Disclosure under § 25 MedienG and Impressum under § 24 MedienG.

Online booking, Selling gift vouchers online: Does the Accessibility Act apply?

If people can book a foot care appointment or buy a voucher from you online, the WKO counts that as a consumer service in electronic commerce, covered by the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (BaFG, Accessibility Act) since 28 June 2025. As a micro-enterprise with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or annual balance sheet total, you are exempt from the requirements for services. That applies to most foot care studios. Even so, easy-to-read text and a clear layout help your customers, especially older ones.

Common mistakes on foot care practitioner websites

  • The text is too small and low in contrast. Many of your customers read without glasses.
  • You only take bookings by phone but can't answer during treatments. There's no online booking or call-back form.
  • The price list is a scanned PDF instead of text on the page.
  • Nowhere does it say whether you do home visits, or in which area.
  • Information on steps, lift and parking is missing, although many customers have trouble walking.
  • You make healing promises on the site. Stick to your services and refer customers with medical complaints to a doctor.
  • Your Impressum (legal notice) is missing the professional title, Landesinnung and the reference to the Gewerbeordnung.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a certificate of competence for foot care?

Yes. Fußpflege (foot care) is listed as a regulated trade in § 94 Z 23 of the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act). To get your trade licence, you therefore have to provide a certificate of competence. The Landesinnung der Fußpfleger, Kosmetiker und Masseure (regional guild of foot care practitioners, beauticians and masseurs) at WKO Steiermark can tell you which training and exams are recognised. It's best to copy the exact wording of your trade directly from your trade licence.

As a foot care practitioner, do I need an Impressum on Facebook?

Yes. According to the WKO, the information requirements of the E-Commerce-Gesetz (E-Commerce Act) apply to every form of electronic content, including Facebook, Instagram and other social media. The details there must be complete, just like on your website. That also includes chamber membership, professional title, the reference to the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and your supervisory authority.

Which supervisory authority do I put in the Impressum?

According to the WKO, it's the locally responsible district administrative authority or the Magistrat. What's meant is the trade authority where your trade is registered. So that's your Bezirkshauptmannschaft (district authority) or, in a statutory city such as Graz, the Magistrat (city authority). If in doubt, ask your Landesinnung (regional guild).

Do I need to rebuild my website because of the Accessibility Act?

In most cases, no. The Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) has applied since 28 June 2025 to services in electronic commerce, such as online bookings. However, micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total are exempt for services. According to the WKO, a pure information site with no booking or ordering isn't covered anyway.
